ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support in efforts for bringing long-term peace and stability to Afghanistan through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process.
Talking to an Afghan Parliamentary delegation led by Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi, Speaker of Wolesi Jirga, Lower House of Afghan Parliament, here at the Foreign Office, Aziz said peace in Afghanistan was in the mutual interest of both the countries.
He emphasized that brotherly relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan were marked by common religion, geography, history and strong people-to-people contacts.
Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi said destinies of Pakistan and Afghanistan were intertwined and the two countries should continue concerted efforts for increasing collaboration. In this regard he also suggested frequent parliamentary exchanges.
The Afghan Parliamentary delegation is on a visit to Pakistan from 23-27 February at the invitation of the Pakistan National Assembly speaker.
