LAHORE: Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Thursday congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election. While talking to a private TV channel, Aziz said the two countries had a priority to achieve peace in Afghanistan and eliminate terrorism at the earliest. “The newly-elected US President Donald Trump has the agenda of economic development, and if the US economy revives as a result of mega infrastructure projects, the entire world will benefit from it,” he said. He said that Pakistan’s business and trade ties with the United States would also improve. He also expressed the hope that the newly-elected president would play his role in resolving the disputed issue of Jammu and Kashmir. “US President-elect Donald Trump had promised during the electoral campaign that if elected, he will make efforts to bring Pakistan and India closer,” he said. Sartaj said that Pakistan would inform the new American leadership of the human rights violations in the disputed state. “We will also urge Washington to play its role for ensuring the Kashmiris get their right to self-determination,” he said. Aziz said that all efforts would be made to enhance economic ties with the US. “We will strive to make strategic dialogue more effective with the US,” Aziz said.
