ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that action would be initiated against the foreigners holding fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) after August 31.
Addressing a press conference here Monday, he warned the foreigners holding fake CNICs to surrender their cards before the end of this month or face lengthy jail terms. He added that drive against such people was underway.
He said that after the deadline, the fake ID card holders would be arrested, sent to jail and also repatriated to their mother countries. He said, “About 23,000 fake ID cards have been identified and around 224,000 CNICs have been re-verified in the first month.”
He also announced Rs 10,000 prize each for the people identifying fake Pakistani citizens. Commenting on the Rangers’ powers in Sindh, he said that delay in the paramilitary force powers is tantamount to put their lives in danger.
In the last week of May, the interior ministry had launched a drive for the re-verification of CNICs of all the Pakistani citizens and warned the fake ID card holders with punishment of up to seven years imprisonment.
The interior minister had said that 25 million families would be included in the exercise to make the verification process easier.
